About the Body of Work
Salvador Francisco create pieces at the single point where beauty and mortality meet. Jewellery is the body adorned; sculpture its mass; clear materials and photography its light and its passing. Questioning: what the body is worth once it is gone; asked through several instruments.
His materials carry the argument: gold leaf and brass, broken mirror, resin, pearl, and the shards of glass we break in kisses and at parties. What cannot be kept whole is instead made sacred. The work is contemporary while exploring intemporal issues: it would have made sense in 1890 and will make sense in 2140. Treating beauty as a serious position, with something unsafe underneath it.
Two currents run through everything: aesthetics and existence — what binds us, the rule and the crown and the inherited shame; and what escapes it, desire, memory, death and the miraculous.
